A night at the movies
For couples who don’t mind sharing their love with the rest of the world... Take a trip to the movies on Valentine's Day. If you're reasonably sure your loved one is going to agree to your proposal of marriage, call the theatre in advance to see if you can buy an advertisement which will appear on the screen and show just before the previews begin. While this could be a little bit pricey, it will certainly have an impact! You'll need to ensure that you both arrive in plenty of time.
Say it with sweets
Buy your Valentine a heart shaped box of chocolates and replace a chocolate with the engagement ring. Be ready to get down on one knee to follow up with the big question.
First date
Tell your Valentine not to make any plans for February 14th, and make all the arrangements to recreate your first date. Make reservations for the same restaurant, download the music that was playing on the car radio that night, or make a picnic using the same food and wine you enjoyed that day. Let your Valentine know that you've recreated the moment because it was the moment you met the person you're going to marry (or knew that you wanted to spend the rest of your lives together), then get down on one knee and pop the question!
Take a holiday
Why not book a romantic long weekend away without telling your Valentine? Take them to your chosen destination on the premise of it being dinner at a restaurant. After dinner, surprise them by taking them back to your accommodation, and pop the question over champagne, roses and chocolates.
Dinner at a restaurant
Kick things off by choosing a truly special restaurant for you both. Make your booking early and while you're doing so, ask to speak to someone about proposing that evening. They'll be experts on the nicest and easiest way to do it at their particular location —whether that's writing ‘marry me’ on the dessert plate rim, or going for a walk nearby to propose before returning for champagne and dessert. Just don't hide the ring in food — it’ll save you a trip to the hospital emergency ward!
Dinner at home
Of course, there’s no reason why you need to go anywhere. What nicer way to propose marriage is there than decorating your dining room with roses and candles, putting on your favourite music, cooking up a storm and greeting your Valentine at the door with champagne as they arrive home. A special bunch of roses with a ‘marry me’ card attached is a nice touch to finish!
